Surprise! Winter has just sneaked into national capital Delhi and most of north India! People living in these regions witnessed dense fog on Wednesday morning- it was thick, visibility was low and it was quite cold. Along with Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jaipur, Punjab and Chandigarh too woke up to dense fog and low visibility conditions. Visibility was reported to be as low as 200 meters at Palam airport affecting vehicular movement in the metropolis and it also disrupted the Indian Railways train schedule. Early hours of Wednesday saw the traffic at flyovers and highways crawling as the drivers drove carefully to avoid accidents in unsuitable conditions. The traffic was particularly slow in the low-lit areas of the city very early in the morning.

Delhites have been enjoying pleasant weather conditions since the previous week but the minimum temperature of the city dropped below 10 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature of the city was 9.7 degree Celsius – the lowest so far this season. According to an ANI report, the MET department has said that as the temperature drops, the pollution level of the city will also spike, bringing more woes for teh beleaguered people in this region. Increasing fog levels and dropping temperature also affected travelling schedule. Chandauli district and Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh witnessed dense fog and caused several trains to get delayed. Altogether, by now, 18 flights and 50 trains have been delayed because of fog. While the change in weather may have come as a surprise aand turned into an inconvenience, people across North India are welcoming the first fog of the season. Check out these tweets:
