Blaming MCD for the rising cases of Dengue and Chikungunya in the national capital, the Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said that LG Najeeb Jung and the Central government should be questioned for the ongoing health crisis. “2 MCD mayors are out of Delhi, ask them why? Their only work is to ensure cleanliness,” Satyendra Jain said. “There are only 40% beds under the Delhi government. We are not denying anyone a bed and have made all facilities available to deal with such cases,” Jain said defending his government. Jain also denied any “outbreak” of chikungunya. “There is no outbreak (of chikungunya). It has been created by you (media) by spreading panic,” he lashed out.

A 65-year-old man yesterday died of chikungunya at a hospital in Delhi, in what could be the first fatality from this vector-borne disease in the national capital. Chikungunya cases in the national capital have sharply risen to over 1,000 this season, marking a jump of nearly 90 per cent from its count last week, reported PTI.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has also blamed the LG and Modi government for the health crisis due to the vector-borne diseases. “Your concern is not Delhi. Your concern is that we are winning other states and defeating the (opposition) BJP,” Kejriwal tweeted in response to criticism that he and his ministers are absent from Delhi. “The CM and ministers are left with no power now, even to buy a pen. LG and PM enjoy all powers. With regard to Delhi, the LG’s abroad, question him about (the chikunguniya situation in) Delhi,” Kejriwal said.

BJP leader Sambit Patra has slammed the Kejriwal government for its lack of apathy. “The capital of the country is reeling under vector-borne diseases, and when Kejriwal is asked questions, he takes to Twitter saying that he should not be questioned. Kejriwal needs to resign. You cannot run away and shun your duty. When people question you, you need to mind your language. You are answerable. Stop calling people who question you dalals.” BJP has come out all guns blazing, slamming the Delhi government.

Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government has come under severe criticism for its ministers being away at such a crucial time. According to an India Today report, Delhi government’s key people such as Satyendra Jain, Gopal Rai, Imran Husain, Manish Sisodia and Kejriwal himself are not in town even as a major health crisis has erupted. The report suggests that while Kejriwal is getting himself cured in Bengaluru, Sisodia is in Finland. Kejriwal has also been accused of campaigning in Punjab, even as the capital fights with this chronic problem. Gopal Rai is in Chhattisgarh and Imran Husain is on a Haj tour. Satyendra Jain, the Health Minister of Delhi was in Goa, campaigning for the party.
