Amidst the political hullabaloo over the suicide of ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal, the Delhi Government has now announced an amount of Rs 1 crore to be given to the famil fo Grewal.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday reached Grewal’s residence in Bhiwani, Haryana where he also attended the last rites of the ex-serviceman. Sympathising with the family, Kejriwal said that the Prime Minister should have met the family of the soldier and added that the pride which led down Congress, will work the same way for BJP.
“A soldier committed suicide is this a small issue? The issue they have raised of One Rank, One Pension (OROP) is also right. We are receiving calls from serving officers since morning, they are saying that ‘you are doing the right thing, we can’t say anything as we are within the army,’…” Kejriwal told the media.
Earlier on Wednesday, when Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia went to visit Grewal’s kin at the RML Hospital, he was detained by the Delhi Police and the same incident took place with the Chief Minister. Kejriwal’s detention outside Lady Hardinge hospital in central Delhi around 7:45 PM came after Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi was taken into custody for the second time in a day, in an unprecedented clampdown on Opposition leaders.
“This is worst than Emergency,” the Delhi chief minister told reporters before being taken away while Sisodia tweeted, “This is emergency”.
Remarking on the detention of Kejriwal outside the RMl Hospital on Wednesday, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee tweeted, “This is all happening in the name of political vendetta. Issues like these make me deeply concerned about national integrity and unity. Very sad that one of our former jawans committed suicide. Unfortunate that Rahul Gandhi and Manish Sisodia were stopped from visiting bereaved family. What is happening ? Unprecedented . A CM is detained in his own State. He cannot move about freely. Unacceptable”
