Even as hectic preparations are on for the swearing in ceremony of the new chief minister of Uttar Pradesh scheduled to be held at 5pm on Sunday at Smriti Upvan near Aashiana residential colony on the fringes of the city, the party is yet to declare the name of the new chief minister. The newly-elected 312 MLAs will meet in Lucknow on Saturday to propose names for the top post in the state and ratify one.
The Lucknow district administration and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have finalised the date, time, and venue for the swearing-in ceremony and preparations are in full swing, especially because the oath taking ceremony is likely to be a grand affair with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, along with chief ministers of other BJP-ruled states likely to attend.
While no official announcement has been made so far about the next chief minister, sources say the name of union minister Manoj Sinha has “more or less been finalised” by Amit Shah. A formal announcement will be made on Saturday in Lucknow when the newly-elected MLAs would meet and elect the leader.
The other names strongly doing the rounds are home minister Rajnath Singh, tourism minister Mahesh Sharma, Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath and Lucknow mayor Dinesh Sharma.
