Corruption case: A row has erupted after a CBI team reached the residence of a sitting judge of the Orissa High Court well past midnight on Tuesday.

Corruption case: A row has erupted after a CBI team reached the residence of a sitting judge of the Orissa High Court well past midnight on Tuesday. Later It was revealed that the law enforcement agency was actually looking for a retired judge in an alleged corruption case relating to a medical college on a government blacklist, according to Indian Express report. Following the incident, lawyers staged protest by staying away from work. Odisha police had also registered a case of trespass against the CBI team. CBI, however, has refuted the allegations.

“On the basis of secret information, the CBI apprehended a private person with Rs 1 crore received as bribe in a case related to a private medical college,” CBI Spokesperson Abhishek Dayal was quoted as saying by PTI. Related to the case, he said, the CBI is investigating the role of a retired Orissa High Court judge along with other persons. “During the said investigation, the CBI team visited several places last night, including current and past residences of the said retired Orissa High Court judge,” he said.

According to the official, the CBI team was informed at the gate that the said retired judge was no longer residing there. “The CBI immediately left the location and informed the local police of the development,” he said. Dayal said the CBI strongly refutes any allegation of attempt to search or trespass at the residence of any sitting Orissa High Court judge.

The Bar Association held an extraordinary general body meeting and decided that its executive body would meet the High Court Chief Justice with a request for an inquiry into the incident
