High drama was witnessed in the Haryana Assembly today when Congress MLA Raghubir Singh Kadian submitted resignation to the Speaker while the House was in the midst of a heated debate on the law and order situation.

Kadian, a senior Congress leader and MLA from Beri, was speaking when the House, on the last day of its brief monsoon session, had taken up Calling Attention notice on law and order issue.

What Kadian said in over four hour discussion was lost in the din, however, the Congress legislator later said that he had submitted his resignation to the Speaker.

“The House was discussing the law and order situation. I got up and told the Chief Minister that the government is tom-tomming that it has done this and that to improve law and order situation, but the fact is that people are fed up with this regime and it is unpopular.”

“I told the CM in the House that like in the old days, Kings used to roam in public by disguising themselves as commoners, CM Khattar should adopt the same method to test the popularity of his government.” I said if just five people out of 100 will say the BJP Government is popular, then I will resign. The CM agreed and told me that I must resign first. Afterwards, I submitted my resignation to the Speaker,” Kadian told PTI later.

Asked what was the status of his resignation, Kadian said, “whatever I had to say I have said it on the floor of the House. Now the ball is in their court now.”
