In a shocking statement, Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam has called the Indian Army’s surgical strikes aross the LoC ‘fake’. “Every Indian wants #SurgicalStrikesAgainstPak but not a fake one to extract just political benefit by #BJP,” Nirupam tweeted. At a time when all political parties, are speaking in one voice, and lauding the Indian Army, Nirupam’s statement has not gone down well with people. This is not the first time that Nirupam has given importance to politics over national solidarity. Earlier he had tweeted, “India expect a real #SurgicalStrikesAgainstPak so that Pakies must cry. Not like last one which they refuse to even admit.#BaramulaAttack.”

Not just Nirupam, but senior Congress leader P Chidambaram is also facing wrath for demanding proof of the surgical strikes. “UPA did PoK strikes too, but it is up to the present government to give proof of the surgical strikes,” Chidambaram has told News18. “The much-hyped surgical strike on last Wednesday night was not the only time that Army had crossed the LoC to take punitive action,” he said. Interestingly, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party Vice President Rahul Gandhi have lauded the security forces and the government for taking the decisive action. They have expressed solidarity with the government and the armed forces.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has also urged the Modi government to show ‘proof’ of the strikes. While lauding PM Narendra Modi for taking strong action against Pakistan, he said that the government should present proof of the surgical strikes so that the neighbouring country does not raise questions. BJP has lashed out at both AAP and Congress for politicising the issue and questioning the Army. BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad has hit out at the AAP chief saying, “When the nation is standing together in such times, why is an Indian Chief Minister saying things that has given the Pakistan’s media a chance to question India? You know you have become the headlines of Pakistani media,” he said. He also said that the fact that Chidambaram is also echoing Kejriwal’s sentiments nowadays is a saddening fact.
