Congress CWC meet: Speaking at the Congress Working Committee meeting on Tuesday, party president Sonia Gandhi raised questions about the 3 years of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre. Addressing the assembled members of the working committee, she said that during the Congress government’s rule, there was harmony, discord and tolerance, whereas now all that has been replaced by provocation. She claimed that in what could be called ironical, whatever success/progress the NDA government had scored has come from the projects and programmes that the UPA government had started.

Speaking about the Presidential and Vice Presidential elections, the Congress President said that she had met with like-minded parties to find commonly acceptable candidates. She informed that a subgroup of representatives had already been formed to find the way forward. Slamming the Narendra Modi government again, she said that the people must be ready to protect the idea and essence of India, which she claimed that the Modi government was seeking to extinguish. She also spoke about the deteriorating condition in Kashmir and said that during the Congress rule, there was a relative calm in the Valley but now there was growing confrontation, tension and fear.

The CWC meeting was attended by Congress VP Rahul Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram and other senior party leaders. According to IE, Gandhi, who chaired the meeting, in her opening remarks said, “The Modi government has just completed three years in office. Where there was harmony, there is discord. Where there was tolerance, there is provocation. Where there was relative calm, as in Kashmir, there is growing confrontation, tension and fear. Where there was economic potential, there is stagnation. Where there was rich diversity, there is a brazen campaign to strait-jacket the whole country into a regressive and narrow-minded world-view”.

    1. As the Congress President Smt. Sonia hi has every right to be critical of BJP, politics of Shri Narendra Modi and his government’s policies and programmes. What she said today (6th June, 2017) in the Congress Working Committee meeting may even be an appropriate comment from point of view of many opposition parties. 2. The Congress party has rapidly lost credibility in Indian polity. Therefore, let us be frank about it: what Smt. Sonia hi and her party think about BJP and performance of NDA government does not make good news. In other words, the Congress party is not taken seriously. That is really unfortunate but a realistic essment of the Congress party and its politics. The Congress party, to regain its dominant position, has to do many things and one of them is do away with dynastic politics and set an example for many regional parties wherein too there is growing cult of dynastic politics.

However three items from UPA time are certainly missing, corruption, inflation and deficit. Also missing is back seat driving.
