The Congress Party on Wednesday welcomed veteran social activist Anna Hazare’s move to stage a protest over the One Rank One Pension (OROP) issue, but questioned his silence on the corruption that is taking place under the NDA regime at the Centre.
“Anna Hazare should protest that the ‘One Rank One Pension’ which the UPA government had passed and implemented should now be fully implemented. We are surprised as to why Anna Hazare is silent on so the corruption, which is taking place in the (Prime Minister) Modi regime,” Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed told ANI here.
Hazare will go on an indefinite hunger strike at the Ramlila Maidan here on October 2 over the Land Acquisition Bill and the One Rank One Pension issue.
An ex-serviceman himself, Hazare had joined the Indian Army in 1963 and served for 15 years as a soldier.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government had earlier said it was committed to OROP. The government has also set aside Rs. 8300 crore for its implementation, but has refused to specify a timeline.
