Yogi Adityanath in Ayodhya: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be visiting Ayodhya today. His visit comes a day after an CBI court in Lucknow framed charges against BJP stalwarts L K Advani, M M Joshi, Union minister Uma Bharti and other accused in connection with Babri Masjid demolition case. It has been learned that CM Adityanath will attend the the birth anniversary programme of Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas head Mahanat Nritya Gopal Das, according to Indian Express report. Das is one of the accused against whom charges were framed by the CBI court on Tuesday. Adityanath is likely to offer puja at the makeshift temple at the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid complex, says India Today report. Yesterday, The UP chief minister met Advani at the VVIP guest in Lukcnow house before the CBI court proceedings had begun. Adityanath also held a meeting with Advani and other senior leaders.

According to a PTI report on April 27, CM Yogi Adityanath directed officials to resume the traditional Ram Leela in Ayodhya stage during Dussehra celebrations this year. It was stopped abruptly several years ago, the report said. During a presentation by the religious endowment department, the chief minister told officials that the traditional Ram Leela, which was stopped in Ayodhya, should be resumed, an official was quoted as saying by PTI.

Along with L K Advani, M M Joshi, Union minister Uma Bharti, nine other accused will stand trial for criminal conspiracy in the 1992 Babri mosque demolition case. The charges were framed against Advani (89), Joshi (83), Bharti (58), BJP MP Vinay Katiyar (62), VHP’s Vishnu Hari Dalmiya (89) and one-time Hindutva firebrand Sadhvi Rithambara (53) — all of whom appeared before the court. All six were granted bail by CBI special judge S K Yadav on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 each after rejecting the CBI’s opposition to their bail plea. Notably, the charge of conspiracy is in addition to the existing charges against them for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion for which they are already facing trial.

Besides the six, conspiracy charges were also framed against Ramvilas Vedanti, Baikunth Lal Sharma, Champat Rai Bansal, Mahant Nritya Gopaldas, Dharam Das and Satish Pradhan — all of whom were allegedly present when the 16th-century structure in Ayodhya was pulled down on December 6, 1992.

Judge S KYadav passed two orders — one for grant of bail and the other for framing of charges.
