A person was today injured as members of a local outfit clashed with the participants of Indian People’s Theatre Association’s (IPTA’s) convention here over alleged remarks by filmmaker M S Sathyu criticising the surgical strikes by the Army across the Line of Control (LoC. Superintendent of Police, City, Suraj Verma told PTI that some workers of Bharat Swabhiman Manch (BSM) staged a protest alleging that anti-national remarks were made at the convention by Sathyu.

“One person was injured in the scuffle during the protest and he was sent to the hospital,” Verma said, adding that if the police got evidence of alleged anti-national statements, appropriate action will be taken. BSM leaders alleged that IPTA volunteers assaulted their workers during the protest.

When asked about Sathyu’s alleged remarks, local writer Vineet Tiwari, who is among the organisers of the convention, said he was not aware of any such statement. Meanwhile, RSS in a statement said speeches and plays staged at the IPTA convention instigated violence against police, Army and the government which was an anti-national act. The right-wing outfit also condemned the alleged assault on BSM members.
