CBI raids on P Chidambaram, Karti: Responding to the raids conducted by CBI on Tuesday morning, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s son, Karti Chidambaram has denied all the allegations against him and his father. Talking to the news agency ANI, he called the raids a political vendetta and added that he has done nothing wrong. “Have done nothing wrong. They could not prove allegations against me, they want to silence our voice. These raids are being carried out only because of political vendetta,” Karti Chidambaram was quoted as saying by the agency. In teh afternnoon, he came before teh media again and reiterated ‘I have nothing to do with whatever cases they are talking about’.
Earlier in the day, CBI conducted raids at Chidambaram, Karti residences at more than 10 places in Tamil Nadu, besides carrying out over a dozen raids in Delhi, Mumbai, and Haryana’s Gurugram. The agency’s move comes a day after it filed an FIR against Karti Chidambaram and Indrani Mukherjee in the case. The FIR was filed by unknown officers of FIPB Unit of Ministry of Finance and others over alleged financial misappropriation over Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to Peter and Indrani’s media company INX Media in 2008, reported ANI. INX Media operated channels like NewsX, 9X and 9X Music.

The charges included unknown officers of FIPB Unit of Ministry of Finance and others over alleged financial misappropriation over Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to Peter and Indrani’s media company INX Media in 2008. The case was registered under section 120-B r/w, section 420, section 8 and section 13(2) r/w and 13 (1) (d) of Indian Penal Code (IPC), the report added.
Responding to the events, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy told Times Now that, “Karti has got 21 illegal bank accounts abroad and he has built many houses in several countries. He has got them financial activities undeclared in 18 countries. So, therefore, money laundering has to be there.” Meanwhile, the CBI is expected to raid Chidambaram’s native place in Karaikudi also.
