Almost two years after a policeman at the national capital’s Golf Links was dismissed and subsequently arrested after a woman claimed of having been assaulted by a cop for refusing to pay bribery, the incident was brought freshly to the mind again on Sunday by a new incident. However as compared to the previous occasion, this time the cops had a defense in the form of a body cam fixed to uniforms, Times of India reported.
Yesterday, a video went viral on a social media site, showing a couple alleging threats of rape and assault against traffic cops in Janakpuri area of the national capital. As per the report, the camera showed that in contrast to what the couple had claimed on Twitter, the couple had assaulted the cops during an argument.
The camera footage showed the woman and her husband attacking the cop and tearing off his uniform during a tussle, after which they were arrested. Speaking to the paper, DCP west Vijay Kumar said the recording of the camera would be produced as a proof against the couple. After the incident at Golf Links Road in 2015, it was made compulsory for traffic cops to have body cameras in order to focus on violators who have heated exchanges with policemen, the paper added.
The incident was reported at 12:30 pm yesterday when a traffic constable stopped a three-wheeler goods carrier for checking in Janakpuri. When cops pointed out discrepancies in his paper, the driver then called his friends and his wife, to talk to cops. During the argument, the woman tried to hold one of the cops by his collar. After the tussle that followed, the driver of the goods career attacked the constable. Other traffic policemen at the spot freed their colleague from the driver and informed the PCR.
