Allahabad High Court on Friday, ordered Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe into Bulandshahr gangrape case. Earlier this week, the HC had sought from the Uttar Pradesh government to know its stand on handing over the probe to CBI, over a PIL filed by an NGO ‘We the People’ through its general secretary Prince Lenin. The UP government in Thursday, filed a the investigation’s status report about the incident. The state government was directed to reply by August 10, alongwith a report on the status of the probe. The HC, had taken ‘Suo moto cognizance’ of the case after a fast track court sent the two accused to police custody.
Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice Yashwant Varma consisted a division bench which ordered the directive. Justices Amreshwar Pratap Sahi and Vijay Laxmi constituted a bench which passed the order. A suplementary affidavit was also filed by the petitioner, alleging investigation lapses. The incident happened on July 29 where a group of criminals stopped the car of a Noida-based family, and sexually assaulted a woman and her daughter after dragging them out of the vehicle which had four other members.
According to a PTI report, the HC had said, “We are not going to dispose of this petition at an early stage. We are going to monitor the investigation in the case. The investigators better take note and ensure that the perpetrators of the crime are brought to justice.”
