Hours after CPI(M) leader Prakash Karat slammed Army chief Bipin Rawat over his comments on the recent ‘human shield’ incident in Kashmir, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit back and said the Left wants to stand with terrorists and separatists instead of the Army, an ANI report said. “Instead of standing with forces, the Army, CPM wants to stand with terrorists and separatists. Has CPM’s real name become China-Pak Mouthpiece?”, BJP leader GVLN Rao was quoted as saying by the agency.
Earlier in the day, senior CPI(M) leader Prakash Karat had slammed the Army chief saying his comments reflected the views of the Narendra Modi Government, which seeks to “suppress” the people of Kashmir, a PTI report said. He added that the army and Kashmiris would suffer “irreparable damage” due to government’s “blind” adherence in using force against civilians in the Kashmir valley. “Unfortunately, the Army chief is reflecting the views of the Modi government which seeks to suppress the people of Kashmir, who are voicing their political protest, through sole reliance on the use of force,”, he was quoted as saying by the agency.

The former CPI(M) general secretary’s comments have appeared in the editorial of the party mouthpiece ‘People’s Democracy’, in its latest issue.
Speaking to PTI, the Army chief had defended Major Leetul Gogoi’s actions, who had tied a man to a jeep to deter stone throwers. In his column, Prakash Karat had alleged that the Army chief did not make any distinction between young protesters throwing stones and armed terrorists.
“To taunt protesters to take up arms, so that the Army could deal with them appropriately, is a needless provocation and displays an attitude which is unbecoming of a senior Army officer,” he added, as per PTI.
