Senior NDTV India journalist Ravish Kumar has launched a scathing attack on BJP alleging that while the party pitched for democracy, it had not sent spokespersons to his show for over a year now. Taking a dig at the ruling party at the Centre, Kumar wondered what was the reason behind this fear. He claimed that while BJP celebrated Holi and Diwali with every journalist, he was left out. BJP doesn’t have knowledge about India, he claimed. The country celebrates bigger Holi and Diwali than the BJP, Kumar said this while addressing Sadbhavna Parva in Gujarat. He also accused BJP and Opposition parties of playing the game of isolation. He further alleged that nowadays party activists do not need to do much as management has been created through social media and by investing a huge amount of money. With the creation of this kind of management, party activists are being used as fake news vendors, Kumar said and added these party men have been asked to create Whatsapp groups where they circulate fake news.
Notably, the central government had slapped a ban on the Hindi news channel NDTV India for a day on November 9 last year. The move was strongly criticised by political parties and media bodies. BJP, however, defended the central government move saying the nation comes first and there cannot be any compromise on national security. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had issued an order saying that NDTV India should be taken off air for a day after an inter-ministerial panel constituted by the ministry recommended this action over the broadcaster’s coverage of the Pathankot terror attack in January. The panel had concluded that the channel ‘NDTV India’ had revealed crucial and strategically sensitive information when the terror attack on an IAF base was being carried out.
Kumar is the anchor of NDTV India’s show Prime Time.
On June 5, the CBI had carried out searches at the residence of NDTV founder Prannoy Roy for allegedly concealing a share transaction from the SEBI and causing a loss to a private bank. The channel had termed the move as a witch-hunt based on some old and false accusations. The CBI had also registered a case against RRPR Holding Pvt Limited, Prannoy Roy, his wife Radhika and unidentified officials of ICICI Bank of criminal conspiracy, cheating, and corruption.
