Bird flu threat looms over Delhi; govt issues health advisories after 4 found dead in Rajghat lake

With 40 birds dead in the national capital out of which 17 are ducks that were found dead at Hauz Khas deer park which took place even as the centre formed a three member committee to keep a vigil on the bird flu situation. On Monday four more birds were found dead at Delhi’s Rajghat lake following which the Delhi government issued health advisories.

What Is Bird Flu?

H5N1 Pathogen is a highly viral infection that spreads from bird to bird. It is deadly to humans and to other mamals that catch the virus from birds.

How deadly it is?

Since the first reported case in 1997 H5N1 has killed nearly 60 percent of those infected.

How does it spread?

Migratory ducks, notably ducks are the natural carriers of bird flu viruses and it is highly prone to get transmitted from the wild fowl to domestic poultry.
