Bihar topper Ganesh Kumar scam: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today talked tough over the ongoing topper scam that has rocked the education system in the state yet again, saying that an FIR will be lodged against the guilty. CM Kumar said that probe into the matter has been going on and those who will be found guilty in connection with this case will be punished. Kumar’s stringent message comes after Patna police arrested state board Class XII Arts topper Ganesh Kumar on the charge of forgery. CM Kumar, however, said that no mass cheating in examinations was seen this year. Evaluation was done properly, the Chief Minister said. Notably, last year also Bihar state board Class XII Arts topper Ruby Rai was arrested.
Ganesh Kumar was arrested on June 2 from the Bihar School Examination Board office on a complaint filed by the board alleging that he took the examination on the basis of forged documents, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police, Manu Maharaj was quoted as saying by PTI. A whopping 64 per cent of students have failed to clear the board exams this year in Bihar. Several science stream students told the media they appeared in JEE Advance, conducted for admission into IITs, but scored as low as 1, 2 or 4 in subjects like physics and maths in the board exams, as per PTI report.

Meanwhile, a political slugfest has erupted over the topper scam row with BJP demanding resignation of CM Kumar. According to PTI report, Samastipur district BJP leader Jawahar Prasad Singh is the founding secretary of the school from where the dubious Arts topper Ganesh Kumar appeared in the plus two examinations. Jawahar Prasad Singh unsuccessfully contested Bihar Assembly election on BJP ticket from Kalyanpur seat in Samastipur in 1985 and 1990. He held different positions in the district unit of the party from 2000 to 2010.
Controversy had also erupted last year following Bihar board XII results. Ruby, who was declared the topper in Humanities stream, had pronounced Political Science which was one of her subjects as Prodikal science which according to her taught cooking. Apart from Rai, Science topper Saurabh Shrestha, third topper Rahul Kumar and Vishun Roy college Principal Bachha Rai’s daughter Shalini Rai were the other three against whom arrest warrants were issued, according to PTI.
