Putting all rumours to rest, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Friday clarified that he was not hosting the event at the iconic India Gate in Delhi on completion of two years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government.
“I am hosting a small segment of government’s ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign. I am the UN ambassador for girl child education. I am not hosting the two years of Modi Government event. In fact, it is Madhavan who is hosting it,” Bachchan told the media here.
The Congress earlier on Wednesday questioned the Centre’s decision of selecting the megastar to host the show, likely to be attended by Prime Minister Modi, and said this step might send wrong signals to the investigating agencies probing the Panama paper leaks.
The Bollywood megastar’s son and actor Abhishek Bachchan, however, downplayed the entire controversy yesterday and said that his father would be hosting only a part of the event where he would be talking about educating the girl child.
The five-hour long event beginning at 5 p.m. at the India Gate on May 28 will highlight the achievements of the BJP-led NDA regime in the last two years in office.
