Prime Minister Narendra Modi bowed to Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary. The Prime Minister took to Twitter on Thursday morning and said that Bhagat Singh’s greatness and exemplary courage inspires generations of Indians. “I bow to the brave Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his Jayanti. His greatness and exemplary courage inspires generations of Indians,” PM Modi wrote. Bhagat Singh who played an important role in India’s struggle for freedom was born in Banga village of Faisalabad district (previously called Lyallpur) now in Pakistan’s Punjab province in 1907.
He was hanged in the Lahore jail at the age of 23, along with Shivaram Hari Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar on March 23, 1931. Today, many functions are being organised across the country to celebrate Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary. The Delhi government commemorated the struggle of freedom fighters and paid tribute to martyrs on the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
A ‘Shaheed Utsav’ was presided by Delhi Labour and General Administration Department (GAD) minister Gopal Rai who also launched a calendar based on the life and struggle of the freedom fighters, according to a report by PTI. The report further added that the function, held at the Constitution Club of India, was attended by a large number of participants including freedom fighters and families of martyrs.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader while lauding the contribution of these freedom fighters said, “Our youth must be familiarised with the sacrifices of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.”
Bhagat Singh’s life has also been brought to the big screen through many Bollywood films. Some of these movies are: The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002), Rang De Basanti (2006), 23rd March 1931: Shaheed and Shaheed (1965).
