Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said instead of issuing statements on a sensitive issue like Kairana it is better to act cautiously and find a solution to the problem.
“I personally feel that instead of issuing statements on a sensitive issue like this it is better to act with caution and seriousness on the matter.”
“If there is a fire somewhere, dousing the flames should be the first priority,” Singh said making it clear that finding a solution to the problem was more important than issuing a statement.
The Home Minister was replying to a question on Kairana in Uttar Pradesh, where hundreds allegedly migrated out of insecurity, at an interactive programme with intellectuals of the city here.
Replying to another question, Singh said there had been a drop of 50 per cent in infiltration bids from across the border since Modi government took charge.
“More terrorists are being killed now than earlier.Indian Army and para-military personnel are performing their duties along our frontiers with great efficiency. There has been a 50 per cent drop in the number of successful infiltration bids from across the borders,” he said.
Claiming terrorist and Maoist activities have both come down in the country, he said while there has been a 37-40 per cent slump in Maoist activities, terrorist activities have also been substantially reduced.
However, he admitted that a lot more needs to be done to further rein in such activities.
On the issue of black money, he said the Centre has launched an amnesty scheme for those possessing undeclared wealth under which they can declare it between June 1 and September 30 and turn the rest into white money by paying 45 per cent tax.
Singh was here as part of a programme by Union ministers to tour the country on completion of two years of Narendra Modi government’s tenure.
On price rise, the Union Home Minister said efforts were being made in that direction.
“There is no doubt some commodities whose prices need to be controlled. We have held a meeting on this issue the day before yesterday. Serious efforts are being made in that direction. Compared to price rise as it existed during UPA, this is much less but still we are making efforts to overcome the situation,” he said.
On migration from Uttarakhand’s hills for years due to lack of jobs, basic health and education facilities, he said he could understand the sensitivity of the issue as Uttarakhand is a border state and he will seek a report from the state government on it.
Listing the Centre’s achievements during the past two years of BJP government, Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had done many charismatic things during the period which had not only made the country feel proud but also added to its prestige in the international arena.
Singh also dismissed the questions raised by the Opposition parties on the Prime Minister’s foreign visits saying he does not visit foreign countries to relax.
“Visiting five countries in six days, holding talks with a host of international leaders and inking important deals with them for the country bear testimony to the fact that he does not go abroad to relax,” he said.
The Union Minister said the PM’s diplomatic acumen has been praised even by the US administration which has termed it as the Modi doctrine.
“America has backed our inclusion in the Missile Technology Control Regime and you will soon hear that we aren’t just making missiles but also exporting them to other countries. This is not a small achievement,” he said.
