Being the first in the country, Northern Railways (NR) Yamuna Bridge is set to get Intelligent Camber Measurement System, following which, testing of camber in the bridge will be conducted electronically with the help of laser.
Technically, camber represents the upward deflection of girders caused due to stress created by the moving traffic or trains on the bridge.
According to a DNA report, Northern Railways chief spokesperson Neeraj Sharma confirmed that the contract for the installation of the advanced system will be given very soon.
Citing that the Yamuna bridge is old, with a lot of traffic, and is within the limits of the national capital, a senior engineer, in a statement to DNA, stated that the bridge full fills all criteria needed for the pilot project. Till date, the procedure of measuring the camber in any bridge was done manually and was inaccurate.
The introduction of the new technology used by the Railways came in concern to the issues relating safety and to avoid manual checking or repairing.
