Samajwadi Party leader and Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Azam Khan today took a jibe at Narendra Modi-led central government over the Vijay Mallya issue. “Suna hai kendra sarkar ek proposal bhejne wali hai Rashtrapati Bhavan, Vijay Mallya ko Bharat Ratan dene ka,” said Azam Khan. Many parties have taken pot-shots at the BJP led NDA government over the Mallya case over not being able to force the flamboyant businessmen to give back to the country what he owes.

Now, Khan lashed out at government for not taking any strong action against Mallya, whose now-defunct group company Kingfisher Airlines owes over Rs 9,000 crore to 17 banks, and who had left the country on March 2 and is in the UK and had hit the headlines again for filing plea for recalling contempt order against him. Once famous for his luxury lifestyle and ‘live in today’ motto, Mallya is now evading arrest.

Known for his controversial comments, Khan had earlier slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his demonetisation move after PM’s mother queued up in a bank line to get her currency exchanged. He had then said, that if he had known about Modi’s mother standing in bank queue to exchange old currencies, he would have never have let her do it. Rather, he would have stood in line for her (‘Mujhe pata hota ki PM ki Mataji line mein lag rahi hain toh main khud jakar lagta, unhe nahi jaane deta’).
