Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi was in Patna yesterday to invite Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav for her father M Karunanidhi’s 94th birthday on June 3 in Chennai, an Indian Express report said. As per the report, the celebrations may culminate to a larger Opposition unity show.
The DMK leader is also expected to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday, who has ben meeting a number of Opposition leaders recently to finalise a common nominee for next President’s post and explore the possibility of unity among Opposition parties before 2019 General Elections. As per the report, during her meeting with the Bihar chief minister, Kanimozhi called up her brother and DMK’s working president M K Stalin, who spoke to Nitish Kumar in details over the phone.
Sources also told Indian Express that Nitish Kumar had showered praise on Karunanidhi and also Akali Dal leader Parkash Singh Badal. During the meeting, the Bihar chief minister also spoke of Karunanidhi’s “politics of commitment.” Recently, Stalin Slammed the NDA government, accusing it of encouraging political instability in Tamil Nadu. The report also quoted sources saying that the “meddling” in Tamil Nadu’s affairs by the NDA Government may also be raised at the rally in Chennai on the day.

Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad have agreed to attend the June 3 event, the Indian Express report further said. The event is likely to be attended either by Sonia or Rahul Gandhi from the Congress, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah and CPI general secretary D Raja.
