Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has kick-started his campaign in Gujarat for the upcoming 2017 assembly elections while Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) might rope-in Patidar leader Hardik Patel for the same.
As Kejriwal began his Gujarat tour on Friday, Hardik said he has been approached by AAP leaders for support and the community, which has been loyal to the BJP for decades, will soon take a call, reports Hindustan Times.
Talking about this, Hardik said that they want to support somebody and the community will decide upon the recipient for the same. In a conversation with HT, Hardik said that they will not stage any protest against Kejriwal visiting Gujarat and has been approached by leaders of his party.
Earlier in 2015, Hardik’s outfit Patidar Anamat Aandolan Samiti (PAAS) had declared their support to Congress in the local body elections held in November in which it triumphed over BJP. However, now PAAS is opposing BJP as well as Congress.
Both Kejriwal and Hardik are well-known for their opposing views than that of PM Narendra Modi and the government, and their union, however, virtual seems to be targeting the assembly polls scheduled in Gujarat in 2017. Delhi CM has been retweeting the tweets of Patel, which have been marked for the criticism of the Indian Prime Minister. It’s still unknown whether there will be any alliance of Kejriwal and Patel when it comes to Gujarat though the speculations are rife.
Hardik Patel on October 9 tweeted, “BJP is responsible for the Hitler-esque politics in Gujarat which is the worst in Indian history. It is a sour truth yet is the truth.” Kejriwal retweeted is, with the caption. “So true.” Earlier also Patel had written a tweet criticising PM Modi for taking credit for the surgical strikes across LoC when it should be the Indian Army who should take credit. This came after the recent BJP-AAP problems regarding the strikes and its proof. Patel alleged that BJP and Narendra Modi have been using the armed forces for political gain.
An AAP leader while talking about the two said that Patidars have been let down by BJP and are disappointed with Congress equally. AAP is a “new party” and Kejriwal is the one who can take Modi’s home town head on. This is what makes AAP an apt choice for Patidars, said the leader.
