With each day passing by, the debate around the presence of Pakistani actors in India seems to be catching more fire. Commenting on the same, Bollywood actress Hema Malini on Tuesday said that an artist is an artist, irrespective of which country they belong to. Her response comes a day after prominent actor Nana Patekar’s remarks, who opined that artists are like bugs in front of the nation, and also took a swipe at Salman Khan.

In a conversation with ANI, Hema said, “Artist is an artist, whether from India or Pakistan, but we have to support India.”

In the wake of Uri attack, Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirmann Sena threatened to beat up Pakistani actors if they didn’t leave India. Following which, majority of Bollywood actors/actresses have shown their support for Pakistani artists, demanding how can banning artists put an end on terrorism. After Karan Johar, Salman Khan too spoke out in favour of them saying, “They come here on valid visas given by our government. They are artistes not terrorists, ” said Khan.

Meanwhile, Nawazuddin Siddiqui maintained that since the situation between India and Pakistan is sensitive at the moment, Pakistani actors should leave India.  On the otehr hand, actress Radhika Apte does not think Pakistani artistes should be banned from working in the Indian film industry.

“I think if a Swiss watch can come to the country and have their own corporate stores, I think a Pakistani actor should come here and do a film here in India. That’s my statement.”
