In another attack in the north-eastern state of Assam, two have died while six injured after a suspected ULFA militant attack. The militants opened fire in Tinusukia district in Assam. The injured have been taken to the hospital.
Tinusukia had witnessed a powerful explosion yesterday. ULFA had warned everyone to boycott Independence day. The district also saw an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in a drain. A day before that, a bomb exploded near the BSF camb injuring a 7-year-old in Manipur. Assam witnessed a series of attack earlier this month, when terrorists hurled up a grenade and took to open-firing in a crowded market in Kokrajhar town in Assam that killed 13 people and injured many.
The security forces are on high alert as Independence Day approaches. Teams are looking for the militants. Assam DGP Mukesh Sahai had earlier said that adequate measures have been taken by the security forces to ensure safety during the Independence Day celebrations.
More information on the attack is awaited.
