Saying that he was anguished by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s negligence on the Lokpal Bill, social activist Anna Hazare has revealed that he will start fresh agitations. In the latest interview given to ANI, Hazare cleared that he along with other volunteers will chalk out a plan for the same. “Our workers will be coming to Ralegan Siddhi and discuss on the course of our upcoming movement. Will decide where will it happen,” Hazare told ANI. The statement gives a hint that the protest can be on a scale like the one he led in April 2011. As a precursor to the protest, Hazare is sitting on a day-long hunger strike today (on Gandhi Jayanti).
He blames PM Modi for ignoring demands for the appointment of Lokpal and Lokayukta. He said, “It appears you have no intention to bring Lokpal and Lokayukta Act.” In a letter written to Modi, Hazare wrote that even after three years in power, PM Modi has not brought the Lokpal and Lokayukta Bill, but on the contrary, has passed amendments which weaken the anti-corruption law even more.
He added that the Lokpal that he demanded, makes it mandatory for those covered under the Lokpal to disclose their assets as well as the assets of their family members, while the amendment passed in July last year exempted family members from doing so. Through his protest, Hazare said he also wants to highlight the issue of women’s security and rising farmer suicides.
