Union Environment Minister Anil Dave on Thursday passed away, he was 60. Dave was admitted to AIIMS this morning following a complaint of uneasiness at his home. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed shock over the demise of his friend Anil Dave. Hailing Dave as a devoted public servant, PM Modi said that he was tremendously passionate towards conserving the environment. He has been a member of the Rajya Sabha since 2009. He was sworn in as a Minister of State with independent charge of environment, forest and climate change in 2016 following a reshuffle in the Modi cabinet. Dave was born in Badnagar in Madhya Pradesh.
Dave became the centre of attraction after central biotech regulator Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) gave approval for the commercial cultivation of the genetically modified mustard. The final approval was yet to be given by Dave. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also wrote to Dave demanding that the GM mustard application should be rejected instantaneously.
Meena Agarwal, Anil Dave’s family friend, confirmed his death. She said, “His body will be taken to All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for embalming. Later, the body will be taken to Indore.”
Terming the demise as a personal loss, PM Modi said that he was with Anil Madhav Dave till late last evening and had discussed key policy issues. “Absolutely shocked by the sudden demise of my friend & a very respected colleague, Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave ji. My condolences,” PM Modi tweeted.

Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu expressed his condolences. “Deeply shocked and saddened at the sudden demise of my dear colleague, Anil Madhav Dave ji.My sincere condolences,” Prabhu posted on Twitter.
