Amid continuing public distress over the crisis of currency notes among people, following the implementation of the demonetisation policy by the Narendra Modi government, Kerela, today, will be witnessing one of the most extravagant wedding in the state, as former Congress leader Adoor Prakash’s son is set to tie knot with liquor baron Biju Ramesh’s daughter.
With a eight-acre venue, designed like a film set, the wedding venue resembles the Akshardham Temple while the entrance is made like the Mysore Palace. Biju Ramesh, who claimed to have invited at least 20,000 guests, is the chairman of Rajaldhani Group and also owns scores of bars. Ramesh came in the news, earlier, for raising bribery allegations against former finance minister of Kerala, KM Mani, who was in the UDF government at that time.
Months ago, the engagement ceremony became controversial with the secret presence of chief minister Oommen Chandy and senior leader Ramesh Chennithala, as Congress president VM Sudheeran criticized the incident. Even Mani slammed the then CHief Minister for attending the function hosted by the one who drove their party into controversy.
Speaking on the lavish spending on the wedding, during the time of cash crunch, Ramesh claimed that he got cash from several of his businesses as they didn’t deposit the amount in banks because of her daughter’s wedding. The liquor baron also claimed to have taken money from his friends by issuing cheques to them. However, Adoor Prakash didn’t make any comments.
