Amarinder Singh denies talking about Congress offering Navjot Singh Sidhu any post; says anybody welcome to join the party

On Thursday, there were reports that Congress has offered Navjot Singh Sidhu the post of Deputy Chief Minister if the party wins in the polls.

A day after rumours of Navjot Singh Sidhu joining Congress were floated, on Friday, Punjab Congress President Captain Amarinder Singh said that that the former cricketer was not a topic of discussion in his meeting with Rahul Gandhi. However, he added that whosoever wants to, they can join their party.

“No, Navjot Sidhu not discussed in meet(with RG).Anybody interested in accepting policies,prog. of Cong is welcome to join us,” said Amarinder Singh to ANI.

On Thursday, there were reports that Congress has offered Navjot Singh Sidhu the post of Deputy Chief Minister if the party wins in the polls. Sources close to Sidhu hinted that Congress is willing to promise the “number two” post to former cricketer, who recently floated his own political front, Awaaz-e-Punjab.

Also, Senior Congress leader and the party’s Punjab affairs in-charge, Asha Kumari said, “No, we are not in talks with them (Awaaz-e-Punjab). The only people who have approached us are from CPI. They have approached us, but talks haven’t started.” She also refuted reports that Congress offered Sidhu the Deputy Chief Minister’s post.

Former BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu and former India hockey captain Pargat Singh along with Independent MLAs from Ludhiana Simarjit Bains and Balwinder Bains had launched the Awaaz-e-Punjab forum last month.
