In a reply to his unruly behaviour, Air India on Tuesday cancelled a flight ticket for Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad who was scheduled to arrive at New Delhi from Mumbai. Gaikwad, who had allegedly assaulted an Air India staffer with his slippers, was earlier banned from travelling by a consortium of airliners. The Lok Sabha MP from Maharashtra’s Osmanabad allegedly hit 60-year-old airline staffer Surendra Kundu ’25 times’ with his slippers.

Though the MP is facing a blanket ban, he has remained defiant about his act and slammed airliners for cancelling his tickets. In a shocking statement, Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad’s wife on Sunday defended his husband’s act of beating an Air India employee, and outrightly denied an apology in the issue. “Mere husband ne use chappal se dho dhala (My husband thrashed him with sandal),” Gaikwad’s wife said while speaking to TV channel Times Now.

The Shiv Sena MP is facing the wrath of his party and media in the incident. Earlier on Saturday, Shiv Sena sought an explanation from Gaikwad. However, the party stood by its MP and questioned the air -carrier in the issue.  “The party has sought an explanation from Gaikwad over the incident. The Sena does not condone violence of any kind,” Harshal Pradhan, media adviser to Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, told PTI.

Also, Sena has disassociated from the incident. Speaking to media, spokesperson Manisha Kayande said, “Shiv Sena does not subscribe to such reaction by any of our party members. Gaikwad is known as Ravi Sir and is very popular in his constituency. He has worked a lot towards solving the water problems of his region.”
