The camp of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has set a Tuesday deadline for merger talks with the ruling E Palaniswami camp of the AIADMK. According to the Deccan Chronicle, the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is to leave on a tour of the state thereafter. Panneerselvam’s tour is an attempt to increase his support and prepare his camp for the local body polls. MLA from Mettur, S Semmalai, who had been responsible for organising a party cadre meeting earlier last week said Panneerselvam will be starting his tour from Kancheepuram. One of the senior members of the O Panneerselvam camp-formed committee said that the talks might go in many different ways, and the OPS camp expected to arrive at a clear picture as soon as possible. He revealed that OPS camp had set a deadline of Tuesday for the merger talks. The talks have been going on for days and no tangible solution has been thrown up and this has led OPS camp to try and force the issue. Disagreement between some leaders about the talks with the Palaniswami’s camp had also been reported at Semmalai’s meeting last week.
Semmalai also said that there was a possibility of a few members of the Palaniswamy faction shifting over to the Panneerselvam camp in the days to come. Meanwhile, a few other reports have surfaced saying that O Panneerselvam’s tour would be starting from the first week of June.
Panneerselvam might also attempt to appoint district-level officers during his Tamil Nadu tour, according to reports. The former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister will be speaking at a public meeting today in an attempt to gain support for his faction among the public.
