Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid the speculation of a Cabinet reshuffle. Although there was no official word about their meeting, it was believed that a Cabinet reshuffle and political re-assignment of Union Ministers were discussed, reported the Indian Express. The exercise appears imminent with several Union Ministers being summoned by Shah today. As per the report, the ministers were informed that they were being re-assigned to roles in the party. Additionally, Rajiv Pratap Rudy resigned from the Modi government on Thursday evening in what is seen to be a signal for a mega cabinet reshuffle, which is likely take place over the weekend, as reported by the Indian Express, before PM Modi leaves for China on Sunday afternoon for the BRICS summit.
As per the report, when junior HRD Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey was named as the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit chief by the party President, this came as the first indication of cabinet rejig. Followed by Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Junior Health Minister Faggan Singh Kulaste who were also learnt to have been summoned by Shah. Two ministers from UP Cabinet Minister Kalraj Mishra and MoS Water Resources Sanjeev Balyan were also learnt to have met the BJP president, reported the Indian Express.
With the exit of Manohar Parrikar and M Venkaiah Naidu from the Government and the passing away of Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave, the Council of Ministers is currently being left with three vacant positions. Meanwhile, Suresh Prabhu has also offered to exit from the government as the Railway Minister after a series of rail mishaps that took place in more than a week ago. He had said that the Prime Minister had asked him to ‘wait’. As per the sources, JD(U), who is now the new partner of NDA, is all set to join the government, while BJP is also keen to bring AIADMK.
