Congress MP from Ernakulam K V Thomas is set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to the Indian Express, but he hurried to scotch all rumours expected to follow by informing Ahmed Patel, the political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi about it. Thomas told Ahmed that he wants to meet the Prime Minister to discuss issues related to his Lok Sabha Constituency, Ernakulam.
Thomas, who as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee had once spoken of summoning the Prime Minister Modi to discuss demonetisation, is known to share a good equation with PM, reports the Indian Express. K V Thomas is also likely to get an important role in the Congress after his term as the Public Accounts Committee chairman gets over. Thomas may become the general secretary in charge of one of the southern states, or state party chief’s post in Kerala — but these have not materialised yet.
Many senior Congress leaders have in the past joined the BJP. Just a few months ago the then Congress’ Uttar Pradesh Chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi jumped ship and joined the BJP, according to an Indian Express report. Last month Arvinder Singh Lovely who was Delhi Education Minister in the Sheila Dikshit government and was a senior Congress functionary also left the party for the BJP, according to the Indian Express. Last month four Congress MLAs in Manipur had also joined the BJP, 23 out of 25 Congress councilors in the Itanagar Municipal Council joined the BJP. According to an Indian Express report. It stands to reason that Thomas wanted to ensure everyone knows that he is not looking to hide anything.
