After getting crticised by the media yesterday, the government issued a clarification regarding the Ayush ministry booklet ‘Mother and Child Care’, which had some tips for pregnant women to deliver a healthy baby. The Union Minister Shripad Naik-led Ayush ministry released a booklet which suggested that pregnant women should control lust, handle beautiful pictures and shun non-vegetarian food to ensure a healthy baby. In the new statement, the government said that the booklet has been in circulation since UPA days. It added, “The publication has been in distribution through the units of the erstwhile Department of AYUSH and CCRYN since 2013. The report that it was released by the Minister of Sate (IC) for Ayush in recent past is incorrect,” .

In a press release by the government, it said, “Many new mothers and families have appreciated that information relevant to the different phases of pregnancy has been made available in a simple format in the booklet. The information provided includes diet plans based on clinical experience, simple naturopathy treatments and tips for remaining stress-free during pregnancy.”

“Avoid tea, coffee, sugar, white flour products, garam masala, fried and oily items, egg and non-veg etc,” PTI quoted the book as saying.In a report by Indian Express Online, The Ministry said these suggestions on page 14 have received critical attention.

The Ministry moreover clarified that these guidelines for pregnant women are based on the concepts and principles of Yoga & Naturopathy.

Never wrote sex must be avoided.” He added, “This was just a suggestion or an advisory, it’s not a prescription.” He further went on to say, ““Pregnant women should detach themselves from desire, anger, attachment, hatred and lust.”
