Janata Dal United leader Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar on Thursday, July 27, less than 24 hours after he resigned as the Bihar CM by breaking the previous grand alliance. Nitish Kumar oath taking ceremony took place on Thursday with Sushil Modi being sworn-in as the Deputy Chief Minister. The swearing-in ceremony took place in the Raj Bhawan in Patna in the presence of the Governor of Bihar, Keshari Nath Tripathi and various other MLAs and MPs of the JD(U) party. Soon after the ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his congratulations to both the new Chief Minister and Dy Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar and Sushil Modi respectively. In his tweet, PM Modi said that he is now looking forward to working together with the two for the progress and prosperity of Bihar. PM Modi’s tweet read, “Congratulations to @NitishKumar ji & @SushilModi ji. Looking forward to working together for Bihar’s progress & prosperity.”

On Wednesday, when Nitish Kumar resigned as the CM of Bihar, saying that he was not left with any other option but to quit, PM Modi had congratulated him then as well for breaking the alliance and taking the side of the anti-corruption front.

Modi’s tweet on Nitish’s resignation said that he congratulated Nitish Kumar for the joint fight against corruption. He also said that the entire population of 125 crore Indians welcome and honour the honesty shown by Nitish Kumar.

Modi also tweeted saying that, in order to welcome the bright future of India, Bihar in particular, it is necessary to rise above the political differences and fight against corruption.
