Actor/Singer turned politician Manoj Tiwari was reported to be the next Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) president of Delhi. Tiwari is to replace Satish Upadhyay as the BJP chief in the national capital. BJP President Amit Shah is also reported to have appointed MP Nityanand Rai as the chief of BJP’s Bihar unit. The 45-year-old Tiwari is the Bhartiya Janata Party’s face in the eastern parts of the country and has a massive following among the migrant Bhojpuri speaking voters from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Tiwari is a member of parliament from the North-East Delhi and is quite popular among the voters from the eastern belts of the country. This might be one of the reasons the BJP has named him as the party’s state president as BJP would like him to compete with the popular faces of Congress’s Ajay Maken and Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal in the upcoming elections. According to Jagran, more than 40% voters in the state belong to east India.
Tiwari, who was born on February 1, 1973, is a well-known face in Bhojpuri cinema as an actor and singer. Tiwari was also one of the contestants in the 4th season of reality tv show, Big Boss. He had contested the general elections with the Samajwadi Party in 2009 and represented the BJP in 2014. Following the Bihar Assembly polls, party president Amit Shah had publicly appreciated him for his pro-active role. Meanwhile, Satish Upadhyay had been facing a lot of fire for BJP’s poor performance in the 2015 Assembly polls. BJP was looking to have a new face represent it for the municipal elections in early 2017.
