Even as the Jawaharlal Nehru (JNU) campus is again in the news for the wrong reasons, with a student Najeeb Ahmed missing now for weeks, a new crisis may wll have come to light after an abandoned bag with a local pistol and seven cartridges, was found in JNU campus on Sunday night.
Police have launched an investigation into the case as this may point towards presence of other arms on the campus and fears have been expressed that various factions of students may well have stocked up on armament that may be used during a face-off.
The police are trying to find out that to whom this bag belongs to but have not revealed more.
The situation in the campus is already volatile and the disappearance of Najeeb after he was allegedly thrashed by the ABVP students wing has added to the crisis. On Sunday, Najeeb’s mother and sister who were protesting at India Gate demanding that authorities find out what happened to Najeeb were detained by the police but later released. They have alleged that they were dragged away and manhandled badly the cops.
The Police have not reacted to the statements being made by the students and the two women, merely indicating that they were not detained at all and that they were taken away because the investigators in the case wanted to pose some questions to both women that may shed light in the case.
The protest by the JNU students is continuing on Monday too.
