Two bodies were brought out and five are more feared to have drowned after their boat capsized in Vena Dam waters in Nagpur. One body was brought out last night, PTI said. A group of eleven people had gone there to celebrate a birthday party.Three of them were rescued by the residents of Wyadpeth said locals. All of them were between 20-25 years of age. According to the india.com report, Akshay Khandare and Roshan were among those rescued who were also from Wyadpeth village. The police and other officials reached the spot soon after receiving the information.
Eight people had requested boatmen Roshan Bawne, Roshan Khandare and Akshay Khandare to take the group to the dam. Soon after leaving the shore, the group started creating a ruckus and clicking selfies, locals said as per india.com. This resulted in the boatmen losing control resulting in the boat capsizing. Nagpur rural SP Shailesh Balkawade was quoted as saying that the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team has been roped in for rescue operations.
While speaking to ANI, he said, “Two teams are here for rescue operations. Few boys had come here for a picnic. They took the fishing boat which capsized”. Balkawade was quoted as saying by Nagpur Today, “Seven people are feared drowned in the incident which occurred between 6 pm and 6:30 pm. While three persons — two boatmen and a college student — were rescued, one body was fished out in the night”.
