West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has emerged as a desperate politician after demonetisation, like her Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal, to hog the national limelight even if it takes a lie. Mamata was the first politician in the country who launched an all out attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the latter announced the demonetisation of old Rs 1000 and Rs 500 currency notes on November 8. Kejriwal and the rest joined the noise soon.
In the last few weeks since demonetisation, Mamata has said so many things that would have surprised even some of her most genuine admirers. There is no doubt that crores of people are facing difficulties after note ban but Mamata’s rants do not help improve the situation. One wonders from where the West Bengal CM has suddenly got so much hatred against PM Modi that she has even vowed on her life to throw him out of politics. Her critiques would happily point out the rampant black businesses, like chit funds operating in her state, and flow of fake currency notes into India through some pockets of West Bengal as the reasons of her angst against PM Modi.
We don’t want to get to such conclusion. But we are share here five bizarre post-demonetisation statements made by Banerjee that tell a lot about the dirty politics she has delved into.
1. Army is lying, West Bengal facing coup
Mamata Banerjee locked herself up at the state government secretariat “guarding our democracy” on Thursday and claimed that the Indian Army’s presence at Toll Plazas in the state was akin to a military coup. She even accused the army of lying.
Absolutely wrong and misleading facts by @easterncomd We have great respect for you, but please please don’t mislead the people

The Eastern Command of the Indian Army said the presence of soldiers was a part of the routine exercise in all North-East state. “Army conducting routine exercise with full knowledge & coord with WB Police. Speculation of army taking over toll plaza incorrect @adgpi,” the Eastern Command tweeted from its official handle.

On Friday, India Today reported that the routine exercise was already planned in advance and the state government had all information about it. One may wonder if Banerjee is chief of a state or an independent country. When was the last time you saw Army carrying out a coup in any state of any federal country in the world?
2. ‘I’ll die or live but will remove PM Modi from Indian politics’
On November 18, the West Bengal chief minister pledged to remove Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Indian politics. Banerjee took this pledge while taking part in a protest march against demonetisation in Kolkata. “Today, I am taking the pledge that either I’ll die or live but will remove PM Modi from Indian politics,” Banerjee told her supporters during a protest rally against demonetisation in Kolkata. Her statement surprised everyone over the extent she would go to throw PM Modi out of politics.
3. Nitish Kumar is a ‘gaddar’ (betrayer)
During a dharna in Patna on Wednesday, Banerjee flayed Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar. Without naming Kumar, she called him a ‘gaddar’. Banerjee said, “gaddari karne walon ko nahin chhodenge (betrayers will not be spared)”. Kumar has openly supported the demonetisation and boycotted any opposition group protesting against the move.
Incidentally, Kumar enjoys a clean image in a state like Bihar, which is infamous in the country for its dirty politics. Who should get people’s trust then — Banerjee or Kumar?
4. PM Modi has created more havoc than Hitler
On November 24, Mamata Banerjee said that PM Modi is a ‘Hitler’ causing inconvenience to the people through the demonetisation. “You couldn’t even recover black money from Swiss banks, but creating inconvenience for those with white money. You’ve created more havoc than Hitler,” Banerjee said shortly after meeting President Pranab Mukherjee.
So far PM Modi has disappointed everyone by not making any Hitler-like statement, though many in the country had expected of him when he came to power in 2014.
5. “PM Ji you think you alone are intelligent”
On November 29, reports said that PM Modi has asked all BJP MPs and MLAs to submit details of the bank transaction done by them during November 8 to December 31. While many saw it as an honest gesture, Mamata couldn’t take the move lightly. So she took a dig at the PM, saying he is not the only intelligent politician. “Why only account details from Nov 8 ? Just 3 weeks. Why not last 2 1/2 years all details ? PM Ji you think you alone are intelligent…and the rest are … ??? After your 21 days of note bandi, the whole country is ghar bandi , so why this farce?.” Sure, Banerjee is also intelligent, so much so that she can raise an alarm of military coup in a state.
