18 Maoists were today killed in an encounter that took place in Odisha. The encounter began in the wee hours of the morning at Jantri in Malkangiri district in Odisha. The state that borders with Andhra Pradesh is gravely under the influence of Naxalism.
The combined team of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha police together carried this operation. Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma said it was a joint operation between the Greyhounds of AP and Odisha police, The Hindu reported.
This is the second major operation in the state after one in September 2013 in Podia block in Malkangiri.
And in a recent development, the Chhattisgarh government has also opened doors to talk for surrender and rehabilitation.
