NEW DELHI, JULY 19: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday criticised Congress president Sonia Gandhi claiming that she had at an election rally in Ahmedabad on Saturday said that "thousands of brave Indian soldiers" were "murdered" in Kargil.Terming it as an "amazing fabrication", BJP spokesman Arun Jaitley told reporters here that this "can only demoralise soldiers and their families".
Jaitley alleged "Gandhi's patent distortion of the truth is also in keeping with her demonstrated inability to stick to the facts." And in this context, he gave the example of her claim that 272 MPs were supporting the Congress when the fact was that no more than 239 MPs supported her for an alternative government after the fall of the Vajpayee Government
"Later, when she met the President, she claimed that she had been given more time, forcing Rashtrapati Bhavan to issue a denial to the effect that it was she who had sought more time," he said.
Asked whether the BJP proposed to celebrate August 15 as a `victoryday', Jaitley said there was no such proposal before the party so far.
