Delhi golfers hold spotlight

CHANDIGARH, Oct 16: As expected Ashok Kumar of Delhi won the boys under-18 title in the IGU-categorised St Xavier's Northern India Junior and Sub-Junior Golf Tournament conducted by Chandigarh Golf Club at its sprawling course here on a rainy today. With today's score of three over par 75, Ashok aggregated 303 (-15).

However, Sandy Lehl returned the best card of the day as well as tournament, one under par 71. With his brilliant performance on the final day, Lehl finished runner-up on stroke behind the champion. Shiv Kapoor (307) finished third.

Local golfer Irina Brar stole the show in the girls categories as she won titles in the under-18 as well as under-15 sections.

Despite a frustrating 89, Irina won the under-18 crown with a nett score of 255. Jasmeet Sawhney was runner-up with 259 and Guneet Raikhy was third with 259.

In the girls under-15 section, Irina defeated Sharan (375) and Japneet Gharaya (416).

Chirag Kumar (boys u-15), Richard Hilton (boys u-11) and Aditya Singh (boys u-13) emerged winners in their respective categories.

Flying Sikh Milkha Singh distributed prizes to the winners in the boys categories while Malwinder Singh, chairman Chandigarh Golf Club gave away the prizes in the girls section.
