Utagi wears cadet boy's crown

Mumbai, Oct 16: Sanket Utagi won the cadet boys title of the Thane District Table Tennis Championship conducted by Youngsters Club at CRI Thane today.

The top seed Utagi overcame second seed Rohan Chinchwadkar 21-12, 21-14.Earliers in the semi-finals Utagi scored over Nachiket Bhave Shaikh by a similar margin 21-12, 21-14. Chinchwadkar had to overcome a tougher challenge in Ashish Joshi, winning 21-18, 21-17.

OTHER RESULTS
Girls Sub-Jr (QF): Madhurika Patkar bt Dharitri Dalvi 21-12, 23-21, 21-18, 21-11; Aditi Jagannath bt Ruta Deshmukh 21-16, 21-14, 21-17; Ashwin Mokashi bt Shweta Joshi 12-21, 21-13, 21-17, 21-16.

Vaidya brothers score: VAIDYA brothers from Pune, Ashok and Suhas, won a place in the World Invitational Pairs tournament, to be held in Mumbai in January, by winning the selection tournament at Central Railway Auditorium here today.

The duo notched 108 IMPs, 17 more than runner-up pair RA Agarwal and J Mukund of Mumbai. Mumbai's Anil Padhye and Anand Mehta finishedthird.The three pairs will get a free entry to the World Pairs event; thirteen other Indian pairs will shell out $4,000 each, in effect hosting the sixteen international pairs invited to take part in the event.

RWITC AGM: As per the understanding between Government of Maharashtra and the representatives of Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) and the Forum for Fair and Clean Racing (FFCR), the Extraordinary General Body Meeting of the RWITC was held on Wednesday, October 14 at Mumbai. Two resolutions were moved in regard to stewards.

The first resolution which favoured electing all the stewards directly was defeated. While 123 voted in favour and 136 opposed it. The second resolution stated that all the nine committee members should be Stewards. It was supported by 133 members and opposed by 80.

The present system of electing five stewards by the committee will be abolished and all the committee members will automatically be the stewards.
