Jitender barges into title round
Jitender Kumar gate-crashed into the final of the 75-kg category with a 21-10 result against Canadian Trevor Stewardson. In the final, he will meet England's John Pearce, who himself had an upset result against Northern Ireland's Brian Magee, reckoned to be one of the top contenders in the category.

Aparna in semis, Gopi in quarters
Aparna Popat got one back on the Malaysians as she halted the 16-year-old local sensation Ng Mee Fen's giant-killing run in the badminton competition to enter the semi-finals. In the process, she was assured of a second medal. Aparna won 11-7, 13-10 and meets Julia Mann of England, who lost to the Indian in the team event.

Mantilla wins Spanish duel
Defending champion and No 3 seed Felix Mantilla of Spain defeated fellow Spaniard Jordi Burillo today 7-5, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals of the clay-court Samsung Open tennis tournament.
