Vajpayee sets stiff growth targets
Chairing the first meeting of the newly-created Council on Trade and Industry, Prime Minister AB Vajpayee set ambitious growth targets and left it to his somewhat dumbstruck high-profile council to find ways to achieve this.

Automatic nod for FDI widened
The government has decided to widen the automatic route of approval for foreign investments. T R Prasad, secretary, industrial policy and promotion, told the economic editor's conference on Friday that 95-99 per cent approvals will now go through the automatic route. The operational modalities will be announced soon.

Cell licence fee period extended
The government has decided to extend the licence period from ten to fifteen years for cellular operators, conceding their long-pending demand, Minister of Communications Sushma Swaraj announced in Delhi on Friday.
