The girl's parents said that they were away shopping and had asked her to play outside in the meanwhile. Singh led her into the nearby deserted school building and allegedly raped her. When the parents found their daughter missing, they asked the neighbours, one of whom said that they had seen her go towards the school building along with Singh.

The parents rushed to the school and reportedly found their bleeding daughter lying on the ground and Balwan standing there. He reportedly took to his heels when he saw them. The victim's father, with the help of other residents, chased the accused and caught him and handed him over to the police. A medical examination of the victim confirmed rape.
