J&K bag team title

CHANDIGARH, June 9: Jammu and Kashmir bagged 21 points to win the team title in the 19th Indo-Tibet Border Police (ITBP) Inter-Sector judo championship which concluded at ITBP Basic Training Centre, Bhanu near here. Logistic Sector took the second spot with 17 points followed closely by Punjab Sector with 16 points.

Jatinder of Logistic Sector was declared the beat judokas of the meet.

Navin excels Flying officer Navin Bhatia of Chandigarh posted at Halwara won the men's singles title in the Air Force badminton championship for the second consecutive year. According to information received here, Navin defeated Pratap (SWAC) in straight games 15-10, 15-8, to bag the trophy. The meet was held recently at Shillong.

Navin also won the doubles title while pairing with Squadron Leader Baladitya. The title holder will lead the Air Force team in the forthcoming Inter-Services badminton championship.

Garhwal XI win AN all-round performance by Lalit (34 and 4 for 28) enabled Garhwal XI beat Defence XI by five wickets in Uttrakhand Trophy cricket tournament at Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 23 here today.

Defence XI won the toss and opted to bat but the team lost the opening three wicket in first eight overs when the total score on the board was 37 runs only. Even the tailenders were unable to face the rival bowlers, particularly Lalit who scalped four wickets. While Chandan, Deepak and Kamal took two wickets each.

In reply, Garhwal XI after initial hiccups got the winning total in 20 overs for the loss of five wickets. Lalit (34) and Rohtash (43) were the main batsmen to score for the team.

Prince got three wickets for Defence XI.

Brief Scores: Garhwal XI: 121 for 5 in 20 overs (Rohtash 43, Lalit 34, Sonu 16, Prince 3 for 20); Defence XI: 120 in 24.2 overs (Hemu 19, Sonu 18, Goldy 18, Lalit 4 for 28, Chandan 2 for 15, Kamal 2 for 22, Deepak 2 for 30).
