Should Pakistan test a nuclear weapon in the coming days, it will take place at a remote site known as Chagai Hills in the western province of Baluchistan. The site, about 2,000 metres above sea level, is watched over by US-built F-16 fighters from a nearby airbase, sold to Pakistan before the country's nuclear ambitions finally forced Congress to stop US military sales.

Sukh Ram faces trial in telecom scam case
Former communications minister and leader of the Himachal Vikas Congress, Sukh Ram, who resigned from Himachal cabinet last month, would face trial in a telecom scam case as a special court on Tuesday ordered framing of charges against him. Special judge Ajit Bharihoke who found `prima facie' sufficient evidence to proceed with the trial against Ram and two others, fixed tomorrow for completing the formalities of framing of the charges.
Decks cleared for prosecution of dismissed MP ministers
Four of the ten Madhya Pradesh ministers, who were dropped on Monday by the state Chief Minister, Digvijay Singh, had been indicted by the Lokayukta on corruption charges. The Chief Minister told newsmen that the Lokayukta did not need permission to prosecute these four as they were no longer ministers.

CBI admits Panna-Mukta oil fields case file is missing
The Central Bureau of Investigation has admitted before the Delhi High Court that a case file relating to probe into the Panna-Mukta oil field deal with a joint venture company was "missing" and "most probably destroyed by the agency's then Mumbai-based SP".
Cong puts off Tiwari's appointment
The formal appointment of N D Tiwari as Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chief has been put off for fear of a split in the state unit. A section of the UP Congress Legislature Party, led by Pramod Tiwari, is said to be all set to desert the Congress in the event of Tiwari's reappointment as the state party chief.
